International Seminar “CANNOVATION” On Tinplate Packaging Held At Taj Lands End, Mumbai, India

The Tinplate Promotion Council (TPC) India presented the fourth edition of “CANNOVATION”, which is one of the most premiere events in Asia on Tinplate Packaging held at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, India on Feb 27, 2015. This seminar brought together a number of participants, including decision makers from many different industries, namely Processed Foods, Edible Oil, Aerosol, Battery, Crown Corks and Paints & Pesticides.

Growing economies such as India have witnessed a huge demand for packaged foods in tin cans, and there is a transformed impetus in the food-processing industry with the Government of India’s drive on the “Make in India” campaign. One such forum is CANNOVATION that has been well-known for driving brilliance in the field of Tinplate packaging. Taking into account the changing needs of consumers and the significance of environmental packaging solutions, this introductory session covered a variety of viewpoints and studies on the most recent trends with the mechanics of Can’s making, coatings and designs. This event drew industry athletics, including Dr Shubh Gautam, President & CEO, SRISOL Group, and many other eminent global speakers.

Addressing an audience of more than 250, president and CEO of Srisol Group Dr Shubh Gautam speak about localizing packaging innovations to position a product in the Indian market during his presentation on ‘Innovation for Make in India'. In addition, Dr Gautam also explained this with a case-study of Kellogg’s poor performance in the early stages in India and the prime reason was cultural disparity and had to compete with home-cooked food as well. Kellogg had to Indianise its products to set things right. The effort to develop products, particularly for the Indian market helped Kellogg make important inroads into the Indian market. There are many other leaders who spoke about many other things in this International Seminar. Lining and Sealing System for food & beverage industry

With the advent of automation there has been the persistent demand to increase the performance and productivity of the manufactured product. This can be also logically explained by the universal fact that no machine created by human mankind can replace the intelligence of a machine created by GOD called the human mankind. The need for automation rose from the resulting activity that followed the industrial revolution in the west starting in the 18th century. This industrial revolution continued for 100 years where in the west grew by 3 to 4 % year on year because of the increasing divide of availability of new products globally while being manufacturer only in west. So this is not surprising that best & biggest manufacturing revolution talked about even till today are from west. A classical example is the aviation industry, inspite of growth & social technological strides that India, China have made in last 20 years, the monopoly to manufacture a commercial aircraft still lies with Boeing or Airbus. Again two giant manufacturing entities of west. The fruits of industrial revolution were wealth & power but these accomplishments were a result of enhanced productivity. This increase in productivity eliminated the reason to have a human being at the center of every activity. In other words inefficiencies of machines were so annihilated that human beings became redundant without compromising the performance or quality. Lining & sealing systems were one such great invention that helped maximize the objective of the industrial revolution. After all, why would you need to seal something when there is no leak or gap? And why would there be a gap or leak if the machines were human beings.

So the end justifies the means. When a house is constructed there are tolerances in windows, doors which need to be sealed. Similarly with increased productivity when we have to pack sparkling beverage we need to take care of gaps/leaks and we need seal and package as well.

Srisol is 2nd largest manufacturer of lining & sealing systems for food & beverage industry. What is Lining & Sealing Systems for food & beverage industry? A lining & sealing system in packaging of food & beverage ensures that the food and beverage is safer from contamination and preserves the originality till the time of its consumption. Imagine how easy or difficulty it is to contain five-six times the atmospheric pressure inside a bottle or a can for months together without the bottle or the can leaking. Srisol did not invent lining & sealing systems for food & beverage. Infact there were natural alternative available and being used to work as Lining and Sealing Systems.

One such product was the natural cork. Natural cork was plucked from trees, processed, cleaned, made into a sheet that was cut into the shapes and was pasted inside the cap of the beer and the food. The problem was cork being a natural product was not available round the year and hence limited producability of sparkling beer and being a natural product had a short shelf life. It started weathering and falling in the beer and hence contaminating the beer. Needless to say that the production, cutting, pasting was a normal process which more often than not created a problem.

Srisol took advantage of this vacuum & developed lining & sealing systems based on artificial & synthetic resources which could be applied to caps and closures of products like Pepsi and Coke, Beer, Jams, Jellies and many others without compromising on quality and/or productivity. Srisol new generation PVC free lining & sealing systems are used in 84 countries globally including the biggest names in the food and beverage industry like Pepsi, nestle, Coca-Cola, Dabur, Amul, Danone, Heinz and the like. The latest generation of Lining and Sealing System from SRISOL are not only eco friendly but also can be applied at a phenomenal speed of 2500 seals per minute. Not only this, the shelf life of the package resulting out of this innovation has increased to over a year. Srisol continues its endeavors to produce many more  lining & sealing systems for different food application which can also work as scavenging compounds thereby adding huge benefits to the consumer by way of maintaining virginity of the product. Some latest development in the field of Lining and Sealing System are head – scavenger, TCA scavengers and many more.

Top Five Advantages Of Coil Coating

Coil coating is also known as pre-painting’ is the process where big coils of various materials like cold-rolled steels, copper, aluminum, hot dip galvanized and stainless steel are coated in a nonstop and highly automated process before final fabrication steps. There are plenty of benefits of coil coating, including these five:
  •  Change normal into Outstanding
Appliances, building materials, architectural paneling, signs and displays can become overwhelming things of beauty with laminate films applied to the coil coating process. In addition, the look of, brushed copper, stainless steel, wood grains, and color changing pigments can be attained simply by using Coil coated metal.
  •    Durability
Pre-painted metal products are durable, and with the suitable surface actions, Coil coated steel and aluminum can be made almost, waterproof, weatherproof, UV resistant and Corrosion resistant.

  • Environment
Pre-painted metal can be recycled without loss of quality. Besides, aluminum and steel frequently recover their unique performance properties after many times of recycling. About 95 percent of the pre-painted metal that is used in buildings are collected and recycled after they have done their job. The performance features of most non-metallic materials degrade after recycling are a loss of strength, aesthetic appeal and durability.
  •   Cost of Coating
The coil coating process is the most efficient and environmentally friendly way to pre-clean, pre-prime, pre-paint and pre-treat metal. The costs of the coating must be considered with in-house paint shops like fixed paint equipment costs, labor costs, inventory costs as well as operating costs since all of these costs are minimized when the painting process is outsourced to a coil coater.
  •   Innovative Process
The coil coating process is evolving to create higher quality with lower environmental impact. Some of the up to date innovations are:
  1. VOC removal: This process collects VOC’s from solvents in paints as well as uses oxidizers to turn those compounds into fuel to heal the coating.
  2.  No-rinse pre-treatment: Lots of coil coating lines have been capable of severely minimize water usage by using this technique.
3.Curing ovens: Great improvements to the most energy-severe part of the coil coating process cure paint
in seconds now by using original induction, infrared or near-infrared curing.

Remember, architects, consumers and manufacturers appreciate the magnificence of coil-coated metal, including reliable quality, design flexibility, green properties and low cost. Prepainted metal allows architects, product designers, manufacturers and to reinvent products. Original shapes, textures, colors, patterns and coatings are possible with pre-painted metal.
